“Khadi” – Any cloth woven on handloom in India from cotton, silk or woollen yarn Hand-spun in India or from a mixture of any two or all of such yarn is defined as ‘Khadi’. Khadi includes

  1. Cotton Khadi,
  2. Silk Khadi,
  3. Woollen Khadi &
  4. Polyvastra.

Story of Khadi

The khadi movement by Mahatma Gandhi aimed at boycotting foreign cloth. Mahatma Gandhi began promoting the spinning of khadi for rural self-employment and self-reliance (instead of using cloth manufactured industrially in Britain) in the 1920s in India, thus making khadi an integral part and an icon of the Swadeshi movement.
